Autumn seems to have well and truly arrived in the Netherlands, with a wet, windy, and chilly weekend ahead. Still, the KNMI expects some warmer weather next week, with thermometers approaching 20 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Friday will be very cloudy and rainy with a moderate to rather strong westerly wind in the afternoon. Maximums will range between 14 degrees in the far east and 18 degrees along the coast.

Heavy showers will move across the country this evening, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts in some places. The showers will continue into the night, and minimums will drop to between 8 and 13 degrees Celsius, east to west.

Saturday will also be cloudy, with showers expected. The northern provinces may get some heavy rain and thunderstorms. There will be strong, near-gale-force winds along the coast and over IJsselmeer. Highs will be around 14 degrees Celsius.

“Sunday will see some showers, fairly windy conditions, and afternoon temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius,” the KNMI said. “From Monday onwards, the weather will become calmer, with a decreasing chance of precipitation and gradually rising temperatures.”

On Tuesday and Wednesday, thermometers could even reach 20 degrees in some places.
