The English Football Association (FA) has fined Martin Sherif £5,000, or around €5,897, for violating its gambling regulations. The Dutch striker, currently contracted with the English club Everton, bet on 61 football matches over 15 months, Reuters reported.

According to the FA, Sherif breached FA Rule E1.2 with the bets. He admitted to the bets, placed on matches between November 2024 and February 2026, but added as a mitigating factor that he did not make the wagers personally.

Sherif’s early and quick admission of guilt, his cooperation in the investigation, and his “genuine remorse” also counted in his favor, the FA said.

Sherif, who played for the Dutch national youth team four times, is currently contracted with the English football club Everton. He spent last season on loan to Rotherham United and Port Vale.
