Video: Arson near Delfshaven railway bridge halts all trains between Rotterdam, Delft

Saturday, 10 October 2026 - 08:45
A fire near the Delfshaven railway bridge, which was reported at around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Friday into Saturday, has caused all the rail services between Rotterdam and Delft, more specifically Delft Campus, to be suspended. This was reported by the Dutch rail infrastructure manager ProRail.
“A contractor who went to the scene to investigate the disruption found smoldering cables and a door that had been cut open,” ProRail said on its website. A fire had allegedly been deliberately set in the room behind the door there.
ProRail reportedly told NOS that it is “clear” that the fire was “arson and therefore deliberate.” Police are still investigating.
The extent of the damage will not be clearly visible until later, a ProRail spokesperson told NU.nl. “I can’t rule out the possibility that the disruption will last longer,” the spokesperson said.
In September train services across large parts of the country were disrupted after pipes and cables were allegedly deliberately placed on tracks at more than 35 locations, interfering with the train signaling system. Further suspected sabotage was also discovered near Holten and Rijsen that afternoon and near Teuge that evening.
